Convert HEIC to JPG for ID and Passport Photo Uploads

Official portals want a JPG and your phone produced a HEIC. Convert it below — and because nothing is uploaded, your ID stays on your device.

Nothing queued yet. Your converted photo appears here with its dimensions and file size.

Why official portals reject .heic

Government and institutional upload forms validate against a fixed list of permitted types written well before HEIC existed, so the extension is refused on sight. Behind the form, submitted images are processed by libraries built without HEVC support, so even a file that slipped through would fail later.

Neither is something you can work around from your side, which is why converting to JPG first is the reliable fix rather than a workaround.

Why converting locally matters for ID

The photo you are converting is a passport page, a visa form or a photo ID. Most online converters upload that to a server owned by someone you have never heard of, where retention and access are matters of trust.

PixHeic has no upload step: the decoder is WebAssembly running in your own browser tab. As a side effect the JPG carries no EXIF metadata, so no GPS coordinates or timestamps travel with the document you submit.

  1. Drop your photo in

Drag it onto the box above or press Select Files. Conversion happens on your device, not on a server.

  2. Upload the JPG to the form

Download it and attach it in the application. Check the portal's size and dimension rules first.

Check the size rules before you upload

Photos keep their original pixel dimensions unless you pick an Output size preset, which centre-crops to a square and scales the longest edge down as it converts. For a file size cap, lower the quality slider and convert again.

Aspect ratios other than square still need a manual crop in Photos, Paint or Preview.

Frequently asked questions

Is my ID document uploaded anywhere?

No. There is no upload step and no server-side storage. The decoder runs inside your browser tab, so a passport scan is read from your device into memory and converted there. Verify it in the Network tab, or convert with the internet disconnected once the page has loaded.

My form requires an exact photo size. Can this help?

Partly. The quality slider handles file size caps — many portals allow as little as 240 KB. It does not change pixel dimensions, so if the form demands something like 600 × 600 you will need to crop the JPG afterwards in Photos, Paint or Preview.
