Convert HEIC to WebP for Shopify Stores

Shopify will not take a .heic upload, and product photography is usually the heaviest thing on a storefront. WebP addresses both at once.

100% Local — Files Never Leave Your Browser

Convert HEIC to WebP now

Drop your .heic files into the converter and download WebP versions at the original resolution. Decoding runs on your device via WebAssembly, so the photos are never uploaded to a server.

Open the converter Free, no sign-up, no watermark. Conversion happens on your device.

Zero uploads

The decoder runs in your browser via WebAssembly. Your files never touch a server, so there is nothing to retain, leak or subpoena.

Faster collection pages

A collection grid loads dozens of images at once. Trimming a third off each one is felt immediately on mobile.

Conversion follows speed

Store speed correlates with conversion rate, and product imagery is where most storefronts carry avoidable weight.

Why Shopify turns away HEIC

Shopify's media uploader accepts JPEG, PNG, GIF and WebP and rejects HEIC before reading the file. Sellers usually meet this the first time they shoot a product on a phone rather than a camera.

Behind the uploader, Shopify generates a dozen resized variants of every product image for thumbnails, zoom, grids and responsive srcsets. Those pipelines expect formats they can decode.

Where WebP pays off in a store

The win is largest where images repeat: collection pages, recommended-product carousels and mobile grids. A single product page with one hero image will notice less.

Shopify recommends around 2048 × 2048 for zoom, and conversion preserves your original dimensions, so a 12 MP phone photo clears that comfortably. Crop to square first if your theme expects it.

Frequently asked questions

Does Shopify support WebP?

Yes — WebP is among the formats Shopify accepts for product media, and it serves modern formats to browsers that support them. HEIC is not accepted, so converting first is required either way.

How much smaller is WebP than JPEG?

Typically 25–35% smaller at visually equivalent quality, though the gap varies with the image: photographs with smooth gradients benefit most, while noisy or highly detailed shots benefit least. Measure with your own images rather than trusting a single headline figure.

Is anything uploaded to a server?

No. PixHeic decodes your file with a WebAssembly build of libheif that runs inside your own browser tab, so the image is read from your device into memory and converted there. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab, or disconnect from the internet after the page loads and convert anyway.
